While Meyer set the bar very hard with his book on the Tudors, this book should have been fascinating because of all the myths that surround the Borgia family. Unfortunately, it just never took off; I actually regretted picking it up a couple times. I don't know if it was just because the myths behind the Borgia family are so extensive or if the explanations of church customs were really cumbersome, but the prose was much more stilted than in his book on the Tudor dynasty.
Hopefully this was just a fluke and his other books are more interesting. I just hope a lot of his readership do not get put off by this work.
