This was so much better than the movie. It was a bit on the confusing end, but what good book isn't? The book is like an addiction; you can hardly put it down and when you finally do, all you can think about is what's going to happen next. What really struck me in this book was the parallels to the situations in the Middle East. I can't put my finger on who Muad'Dib could be in the Middle East situation, but I still see a slight allegory. I see the spice representing oil, at the very least.
