An Interesting Cross Between an English and Linguistic Anthropology Experiment

All Roads Lead to Austen: A Yearlong Journey with Jane - Amy Elizabeth Smith

One of the big things I've always wondered was whether the books I read as a native English speaker translate well into other languages. This particular book looks at one of my favorite authors, Jane Austen, and attempts to do just that.

I was surprised how some people in various countries had similar reactions to Americans, and was curious about the varying interpretations from people with differing views.

I liked to hear some of the personal experiences the author experienced. It made her much more likeable and gave me the feeling of sympathy. I'm also glad that everything worked out well for her with her research.

I would have liked to have seen more transcriptions of what happened at the meetings, for I can imagine they would be highly abridged.
