I found this book to satirize much of our culture, specifically things like the breast implants being given for high school graduation presents and the negative body image people are being fed by Hollywood actors and ads we see on television. Judging by some of the names of the mansions the new pretties live in and the geography, I would say this even takes place in California. All in all, it was an interesting book to read. Tally was a fun character to read about and the message rang through nicely without whacking you over the head with it. The only thing I would have changed is the names of the "classes." Westerfield could have been so much more creative with them. After all, the hoverboard and surgery for mind control was brilliant.
