Rilla of Ingleside - L.M. Montgomery This was the only one of the Anne of Green Gables series that I actually had to slog through. However, I'm glad that I did, because I got to watch the main character, who was whiny at first, get faced with challenges and roadblocks that force her to grow up and be a stronger person. Better yet, she even states that she didn't particularly like the challenges, but that she wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. On the whole, it was quite depressing, as a WWI book should be, and I didn't like that one of my favorite characters died in this book; however, I can see that the author would kill a character in order to have the main character get stronger and grow up further.
